Relative/Family Peer Working

Relative Peer Support offers families/friends of those with mental health challenges an opportunity to meet with a Relative Support Worker who has lived experience of supporting a loved one with mental health difficulties.

Relative peer support is recovery orientated with the focus on inspiring hope for the future and supporting family members on the recovery journey. Relatives are offered on-going emotional support, collaborative life skills work, links to community services in order to build resilience and assist the family to cope more positively with the challenges they are facing.
Bealach Nua offers this service to relatives who have a loved one linked to Mayo Mental Health Services. This service is jointly managed by Shine in partnership with Mayo Mental health Services.

Welcome to Recovery Colleges West

Welcome to Mayo Recovery College

Based on the Castlebar campus of the Atlantic Technological University, the Mayo Recovery College has emerged as a significant social and educational innovation since its inception in 2013.


This unique service aims to support, maintain and promote positive mental health in the community and to foster hopeful positive conversations about human distress and the challenges associated with poor mental health. Our mission is to advance personal recovery through vibrant adult education. This is a service for all in our community and I encourage you to get involved.

Roscommon/East-Galway Recovery College

REGARI (Roscommon-East Galway Advancing Recovery in Ireland) Recovery College is a community based initiative that will empower you to become an expert in your own self-care and enhance your skills and confidence to manage your own recovery through education, conversation and collaboration in mental health and well-being.

 

Mission

  • To promote social inclusion and community involvement.
  • To develop and deliver modules through working in partnership with people with lived experience of mental health challenges, family members, carers, people working in mental health and others.
  • To make these modules available throughout Roscommon and East Galway and in Athlone Institute of Technology.
  • To promote a culture of change to ensure an environment of mutual respect, opportunity, control and hope.

Self Care to Wellness Programme

This is a six week 2.5 hr weekly session self care management programme for people living with on going health conditions be it physical, mental or neurological.

The Self Care to Wellness Programme is designed to help people learn ways to manage the symptoms and feelings that are common when faced with a long term Health condition. the programme also recognises the value of peer support and requires that at least one of the co-facilitators of a programme are they themselves living with a long term health condition. During this programme you will develop the skills to become an active self manager of your condition, you decide what is important to you and what you would like to work on.   Topics covered on the programme: managing pain, fatigue and difficult emotion, nutrition and exercise methods, setting manageable goals for the individual, managing medications, communicating effectively with your family, friends and health care team.  The programme is run all over Mayo and Roscommon. Cost of programme is €20.00.

Academic Advisory Group

The Recovery College advisory group provides counsel, guidance and oversight to the College with regard to the quality of programme content.

It ensures that adult education principles are adhered to in the design and delivery of co-produced modular course content.

It also ensures that mental health recovery principles and recovery fidelity are evident and consistent throughout the curriculum.

Operational Group

The MRC operational group provides management input and guidance to the college with regard to its daily and semester activities.

The group has a diverse membership and includes lived experience. The group offers multiple perspectives and deliberates the actions and activities of the College in a consensual  and rigorous manner. The overarching aim of the group is to facilitate the smooth and effective running of the college,  the incorporated delivery of quality recovery education and the role of the peer educator.
